Question 1

Does Pearl Weed need CO2?

Accepted Answer

No. Pearl weed can grow without injected CO2. Added CO2 generally makes fast, dense carpet growth easier, especially under stronger light.

Question 2

How do I make Pearl Weed carpet?

Accepted Answer

Plant small clumps with gaps between them, provide appropriate light, keep nutrients and carbon stable, and trim the tops regularly. Replant healthy cuttings into open areas as the carpet expands.

Question 3

How much light does Pearl Weed need?

Accepted Answer

Medium light is a good starting point. Roughly 20–35 PAR is commonly cited for medium-light growth, while stronger light can help produce denser growth when the rest of the aquarium is balanced.

Question 4

Why is my Pearl Weed turning yellow or brown?

Accepted Answer

Possible causes include nutrient imbalance, shading, acclimation stress, or poor growing conditions. Check the pattern of the discoloration, recent changes, nitrate and other nutrients, lighting, and plant density before increasing fertilizer.

Question 5

Can Pearl Weed grow in a low-tech aquarium?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pearl weed can grow in a low-tech aquarium without injected CO2. Expect slower and potentially less compact carpeting than in a well-balanced CO2-injected setup, and rely on steady light, nutrients, and trimming.
