Hi, I’m Johnny.
I didn’t start out as a “pet person.” My miniature pinscher was actually a gift I didn’t ask for — I wasn’t particularly drawn to dogs before he came into my life. But somewhere along the last 9 years of feeding him, walking him, worrying over him when he got sick, and just living life together, that changed completely. He’s family now, plain and simple.
Long before that, though, my real soft spot was aquariums. For more than 10 years I kept fish — at one point running several tanks at once, obsessing over water parameters, species compatibility, the whole thing. It’s a hobby I eventually had to give up when apartment space ran out, but the years I spent with my hands in that water taught me more about patience and animal care than almost anything else in my life.
Why HappyPetZone Exists
I built this site about three years ago, honestly more out of curiosity than a grand plan. It sat mostly untouched for a while. In 2026, I decided to actually put real time and care into it — not just as a project, but as something that reflects what I’ve learned as an owner, and what I continue to learn every time I research a topic for a new article.
How We Approach Pet Care Content
I want to be upfront about something: I’m not a veterinarian, and I don’t pretend to be one. What I am is someone who has lived with animals — dogs and fish, specifically, in a very hands-on way — and who takes the responsibility of writing about pet care seriously.
Here’s what that means in practice:
- Personal experience informs articles about dogs and aquarium/fishkeeping topics, where I’m writing from years of direct, lived experience.
- For everything else — cats, birds, reptiles, and small pets — and for any medical, health, or behavioral claims across all categories, we research thoroughly and cite veterinary sources, published studies, and recognized animal care organizations. We don’t guess, and we don’t repeat unverified claims just because they’re common online.
- We update content when new information or guidance becomes available, rather than letting old articles sit stale.
If you ever spot something on this site that seems outdated or incorrect, I genuinely want to know — you can reach out through the Contact page.
What You’ll Find Here
HappyPetZone covers practical, real-world care guides across dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, and small pets — the kind of information I wish I’d had when my pincher first came home, or back when I was troubleshooting my first aquarium.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope something here makes caring for your pet a little easier.
