Question 1

Does guppy grass need CO₂?

Accepted Answer

No. Guppy grass can grow without injected CO₂. Good basic care and stable water conditions are generally sufficient.

Question 2

Can guppy grass float in an aquarium?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Floating is one of the simplest ways to keep it, especially in breeding tanks. A floating ring can help keep the plant in a designated area.

Question 3

Does guppy grass need substrate?

Accepted Answer

No. It can grow while floating, and planting it in substrate is optional. Loose stems may not remain anchored securely.

Question 4

How fast does guppy grass grow?

Accepted Answer

Growth varies with lighting, nutrients, and aquarium conditions. It can grow quickly enough to need frequent thinning, so check it regularly and remove excess material before it crowds the tank.

Question 5

Is guppy grass safe for shrimp and baby fish?

Accepted Answer

It can provide useful cover for small shrimp and fish fry. Make sure the plant does not obstruct filter intakes or prevent normal water circulation.

Question 6

Why is my guppy grass turning brown?

Accepted Answer

Possible causes include sudden changes in water conditions, poor light reaching the lower growth, decaying material, or nutrient limitations. Check recent changes and the overall aquarium before treating it as a specific deficiency.
