Question 1

Can I feed goldfish and tropical fish the same flake?

Accepted Answer

Not long-term. Goldfish need a lower-protein, higher-carbohydrate formula than a tropical community flake provides, and feeding the wrong ratio consistently tends to show up as excess waste and slower growth.

Question 2

Do bottom feeders need dedicated food, or will leftover flakes reach them?

Accepted Answer

In a tank with active surface feeders, leftover flakes rarely make it down intact. A dedicated sinking wafer is the more reliable way to make sure corydoras, plecos, and shrimp actually get fed rather than living on scraps.

Question 3

Why does my betta ignore flakes but eat pellets?

Accepted Answer

Bettas are built to snap at distinct floating particles, not graze on flakes drifting across the surface. A betta-specific pellet matches that hunting behavior and the higher protein ratio the species actually needs.

Question 4

How much should I feed my koi in winter?

Accepted Answer

Cut back sharply as water temperature drops, and stop entirely once it’s consistently below about 50°F (10°C). A koi’s digestion slows down with the cold, and food sitting undigested in a sluggish gut does more harm than skipping a few feedings.

Question 5

Is it bad to feed the same food every day?

Accepted Answer

A quality staple food covers most of what fish need daily, but rotating in a second food occasionally rounds out nutrition and keeps fish from becoming reluctant to eat anything unfamiliar later.
