Question 1

Does Anubias need CO₂?

Accepted Answer

No. Anubias can grow well without injected CO₂. Stable aquarium conditions and appropriate light are more important for this slow-growing plant.

Question 2

Can I bury the Anubias rhizome?

Accepted Answer

No. Keep the rhizome above the substrate and attach the plant to rock or driftwood. Burying the rhizome can lead to rot.

Question 3

How much light does Anubias need?

Accepted Answer

Low to moderate light is usually sufficient. Strong light can encourage algae because Anubias grows slowly and its leaves remain in the aquarium for a long time.

Question 4

Does Anubias need root tabs?

Accepted Answer

Usually not. Anubias is a rhizome plant that can obtain much of its nutrition from the water column, so root tabs are not normally necessary for the plant itself.

Question 5

How do I propagate Anubias?

Accepted Answer

Propagate Anubias by dividing a healthy rhizome. Make a clean cut through firm tissue and attach each healthy section to rock or wood.
